Derby name: Kwietly K Awtic
How did you find out about roller derby?
I moved to an isolated island in Alaska and meeting people was hard. I decided after much hounding from one skater, I would check it out. I put skates on that night and have been playing derby every sense.
What kind of skating skills or athletic experience did you have before starting derby?
I did a lot of roller skating growing up, in fact, I was at the skating rink 3-5 nights a week. I also played many volleyball, softball, and basketball.
How did you chose your derby name?
My husband came up with it for me.
What is your primary position?
I am primarily a blocker.
What is your greatest strength as a skater?
I feel that it’s my dedication. I have been told that I am calm on the track and have a way to keep others can as well.
What do you contribute most to the team?
My willingness to help where I am needed.
What has been your greatest experience on the track?
Finding life long friends on the track. Derby brings many different types of people together and you have to leave your differences off the track in order to be successful .
What are you looking forward to the most this season?
Playing. I broke my ankle the first home game last season and it has been a hard 10 months of rehab.
What do you contribute to GRG off the track?
I am on the board along and I’m a committee head.
What do you do in the non-derby part of your life?
I am a wife, and mother of two amazing kids. Currently, I do payroll for Bozeman Health.
If you could have any super power what would it be?
Ability to read minds.
What’s the one piece of advice you would give people interested in playing roller derby?
Don’t give up. It’s a sport for everyone, but it takes dedication and commitment.
