Next up in our Gallatin Roller Girlz featured skater series is our own Pepe Le Sewer
Derby name: Pepe La Sewer
How did you find out about roller derby?
What kind of skating skills or athletic experience did you have before starting derby?
I didn’t grow up skating and really didn’t have any skating skills, but as far as athleticism I always lifted growing up and ran a little here and there.
How did you chose your derby name?
It’s a play off of the cartoon character Pepe La Pew….
Pepe: because people always said I had so much energy and I was always the team cheerleader, positive motivator
Sewer: my maiden name was Manssour (Sounds like Man-sewer). Hence the name Pepe La Sewer!
What is your primary position?
What is your greatest strength as a skater?
Literally my strength or the power I have.
What do you contribute most to the team?
I feel sometimes I help best with the newer skaters, I try by being SUPER encouraging. I believe I also try to elaborate on great jammer tips!! As one friend put it to me….. I also, help skaters learn how to absorb hits. LOL
What has been your greatest experience on the track?
Feeling the togetherness of the team as a whole, especially when you are all on the same page!! DEFINITELY THE camaraderie of the all the ladies on the track with you!
What are you looking forward to the most this season?
The bonds that grow among the team & of course WINNING!
What do you contribute to GRG off the track?
Cheerleading the league & the promotion of trying to recruit other strong powerful women!
What do you do in the non-derby part of your life?
Office Manager for Budget Blinds of Gallatin Valley.
If you could have any super power what would it be?
To be able to fix anything or everything, especially to be able to fix people! LOL
What’s the one piece of advice you would give people interested in playing roller derby?
What is the excuse? Did you say you never skated or you don’t know how to skate well? Who cares!! I personally say try it, life is too short to have wished or regret not doing something in this lifetime… Just remember you weren’t born running out of your mother’s womb.. You have to take baby steps just like anything in life. What’s the worst that will happen, you will fall and hurt your bum, or your pride? WHO CARES….. I still do it on a regular basis!
