Gallatin Roller Girlz (GRG), southwestern Montana’s roller derby league, is proud to announce that they have been accepted as an Apprentice affiliate of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), the governing body for women’s amateur flat track roller derby.
Apprenticeship is a huge honor for the Gallatin Roller Girlz. Gallatin Roller Girlz is one of 22 leagues from around the world accepted during the Quarter 1 2014 process.
This selection gives Gallatin Roller Girlz the opportunity to bring their derby program to the national level. WFTDA apprentice leagues are matched with veteran member leagues and are guided through the steps necessary to become a full member of the Association. The Women’s Flat Track Derby Association created and has since maintained the standardized ruleset for the flat-track game. There are currently 234 WFTDA member leagues and more than 100 apprentice leagues worldwide.
Gallatin Roller Girlz, a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to the empowerment of individuals through the sport of roller derby, is the first league out of seven in Montana to achieve Apprenticeship designation. GRG join the ranks of more than 250 all-female, skater-owned-and-operated leagues worldwide that have united to lead the growing sport of women’s flat track roller derby.
The Girlz will host their 2014 home season opener, Taladerby Nights – an intra-league bout – on Saturday, May 24 at the Gallatin County Fairgrounds – Haynes Pavilion.
